FESTIVALS: Our Partners

FESTIVALS project partners, led by Agderforskning, will explore the complex cultural, social and economic phenomena of 11 European festivals by posing the question ‘what role do festivals play in initiating and nurturing creativity and innovation?’
Nils Jonas Daniel Frykman
Professor II, Creative Industries, Agder Research, Norway.
Since 1981 Jonas Frykman has been managing 15 research projects in Sweden, Norway and internationally, engaging with 45 scholars.
Jonas Frykman has published 15 books and numerous articles both in Swedish and international journals. The majority of publications deal with the relation between everyday culture, state identity and the market.
Publications include: Identities in Pain (1998); Being There: New Perspectives in Phenomenology and the Analysis of Culture (2003); Articulating Europe: Local perspectives (2003), Sense of Community: Trust, Hope and Worries in the Welfare state (2009).
Kirsti Mathiasen Hemdal
Senior researcher in Creative Industries, Agder Research, Kristiansand, Norway.
Kirsti Mathiasen Hemdal wrote her PhD project about Nordic Theme Parks and post.doc on Political Places in Change (comparative study of Croatia and South Africa).
Kirsti has been the leader for a range of projects, such as Festivals in Southern Norway, VRI Agder Creative Industries and Professionalizing Creative Industries.
Most recent publications in English: When Theme Parks happen (2003), Help, we are attractive on the business market (2005), Tourism as a weapon against poverty? On female entrepreneurship in Soweto (2008).
Pia Maria Arenius
Professor, Turku School of Economics, Finland.
Pia Maria Arenius was a Chairman of the board of Global Entrepreneurship Research Association in 2008-2009.

Jasna Čapo Žmegač
Research advisor at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, Zagreb, Croatia. Professor, University of Zagreb, Croatia.
Jasna Čapo Žmegač’s research interests include: anthropology of migration and transnationalism, forced migration, politics of identity, family history, popular religion and ritual, history of Croatian ethnology, anthropology of death.
Her most recent book Strangers Either Way. The lives of Croatian Refugees in Their New Home was selected among Choice’s Outstanding Academic Titles for 2008.
Katja Leppäkoski
Managing director of Pori Jazz Festival, Finland.
Katja Leppäkoski is a Board Member of Finland Festivals and Finnish Jazz Federation. She is also a visiting lecturer on different courses from 1998 onwards.
Riku Räsänen
Managing Director of RMJ Party Camp, the rock music festival, Finland
Putte Svensson
CEO for Rockcity Ltd, Sweden.
Putte Svensson is responsible for development at Rockparty and is part of the executive management for the Hultsfred festival.
Putte is one of the founders of Hultsfred festival. He has received several awards for his entrepreneurial work and is often turned to as an expert in development of the creative industries.

Vedran Mlikota
Artistic director of the festival Comedies in Carnival in Rijeka, Croatia (2006-2008). Actor at Croatian National Theatre.
Ratka Jurkovic
Director of Swan Consulting (Norwegian-Croatian cluster of management consultants).

Cristopher Maughan
Principal Lecturer, Department of Performance and Digital Arts, Arts and Festivals Management, De Montfort University, United Kingdom.Christopher Maughan has been a researcher on festivals since 2002. Currently he is coordinating the European Festivals Research Project (EFRP).
